Antiquities Minister Khaled El-Anany received on Wednesday French Ambassador to Cairo Stefan Routier to discuss ways of boosting cooperation between the two countries in the field of archaeological work.

The meeting was an opportunity to launch an Egyptian-French cooperation project, that aims at developing the archaeological the site of Tanis in Sharqia Governorate.

This comes in the framework of the Ministry's efforts to upgrade the level of the archaeological site, which the French archaeological missions have been excavating through the past 90 years.

In coordination with the French expedition of the excavations in San El Hagar, the project is carried out by the Ministry of Antiquities, the French Institute for Oriental Antiquities (IFAO), the Center for Conservation & Restoration of Cultural Heritage (CICRP), and the Cheops Archaeology Fund, incorporation with the French Ministry of Culture.

The project includes the establishment of an interpretation center, upgrading of visitors' facilities, restoration of the shrine gate of Shoshenq III and the restoration of monuments located on the site.
