Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released on Monday a new report on Apple’s supply chain  pertaining the 2019 and 2020 iPhones. The 2019 iPhones will feature great changes in antenna structures due to a shift in suppliers and technology, according to Times News.

Apple will switch to modified-PI material or MPI for most antennas in 2019 iPhones rather than the liquid crystal polymer material or LCP material currently found on the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR.

One of the reported benefits of switching to MPI is the addition of more antenna suppliers for negotiating leverage, a more reliable production process and easier more flexible printed circuit board technology iterations moving forward.

In addition iPhone shipments in the second half of 2019 will be flat year-over-year. The analyst reiterated that the 2020 iPhones will adopt 5G technology and switch back to the LCP antenna tech.

Last month, reporters predicted that the 2020 iPhones will use modems from Samsung and Qualcomm, and switching to 5G would help Apple to sell 200 million iPhones in 2020.
